Lebanon has
a unique opportunity today to
produce leaders in various disciplines, who not only advance the content of
specific professions but who are also sensitive to the importance of
environmental protection and the need to maintain equity, ecological security,
and the wealth of global natural resources.
Ruwayha
Renewable Energy Institute RREI (BOT) will be set up as
an institution of higher learning to meet this set of needs for a rapidly
developing Lebanon. But, as a global institution while it draws
strength from the ethos and traditions of Lebanon, RREI reaches out in sourcing
knowledge from across the globe. Its major strength will lie in an
‘International Reservoir’ of knowledge, experience and research experience. RREI aims
to be a unique institution engaged not only in research that supports the
objectives of sustainable development but also a practitioner in the field and
an organization that engages all types of stakeholders in fulfilling its
mission. While the
RREI is at the start of its exciting journey, the richness of programs that will
be launched and those that are in the making will present the refreshing flavor
of innovation and a strong relevance for addressing the Lebanese challenges of
tomorrow. RREI will be a Lebanese
Organization that aims to teaching Renewable Energy Science in order to put
Lebanon on the right and modern track.
To this effect, Ruwayha Eco Village allocates, at least, 10 000 square meters of
its land.
The
mission of RREI will be to
support the Research, Development, Demonstration and Commercialization of next
Lebanese generation technologies for the efficient, economical, and
environmentally friendly production of Clean Fuels and Clean Energy from
Renewable Energy sources.
I.
RREI’s
Vision Statement :
To end Lebanon's dependence on
unsustainable sources of energy, lead and formulate public policy that promotes
greater use of Renewable Energy, and develop strategic partners that share and
advance the goal of making Lebanon energy independent from fossil fuels. II.
RREI’s
Mission Statement :
To educate the public stakeholders
that include residential, commercial, industrial and governmental organizations
who are consumers of energy the many benefits and uses of renewable energy and
to promote the expanded use of Renewable Energy technologies. III.
RREI’s
Goals & Objectives :
The specific, short and long-term,
goals and objectives are :
7.
RREI will educate and inform the
Lebanese public, residential, commercial, industrial and governmental
organizations, the many benefits and uses of Renewable Energy.
12.
RREI will seek and develop
strategic partners/partnerships that share and advance Lebanon’s common goals. 13.
RREI will seek out qualified
companies and people that want to utilize its products and services.
19.
RREI will fund Lebanese important
research that leading professors, grad students and universities are conducting
that will make Lebanon energy independent and end its dependence on foreign
fossil fuels. RREI will also
perform Renewable Energy
Feasibility studies. IV. RREI’s
2 Years Diploma Program : A two-year Diploma Program in Renewable Energy. Renewable
energy technologies and applications are receiving a worldwide boost in view of
increasing prices of conventional energy and increased concerns regarding
climate change. Wind
power, solar PV power, solar water heaters and small hydro systems are rapidly
getting mainstreamed, and both, investments in these sectors and installed
capacities, are increasing at double-digit growth rates. However,
in Lebanon, there is a dearth of professionals trained in aspects of Renewable
Energy such as technologies, policies, financing, etc. The
Program, offered by RREI,
aims to build skilled professionals who can tackle practical problems of design
and development for industrial applications and also, pursue academic research. The course
will be designed to teach working professionals/graduates not only Renewable
Energy technology and implementation but also topics in the equally important
synergetic sectors of energy infrastructure, energy economics, and energy
conversion technologies.
V. RREI’s
Phd Program : RREI’s
Phd academic program will be devised to provide a multidisciplinary
and practical focus. The
RREI will be engaged in research
in the broad area of clean technologies to achieve energy efficiency and
minimize adverse environmental impacts. The areas of research will include
Renewable Energy, energy conservation, energy engineering and environment
engineering including technologies for waste management and process efficiency
improvement. VI.
RREI’s ‘E-Learning’
@
: RREI, will aspire to
contribute globally by serving society as a seat of advanced learning.
RREI
will open corridors of
knowledge to the Lebanese student community across the world. By taking
learning beyond the classroom,
RREI
E-Learn will aim to create
and share knowledge in the field of Lebanese energy, environment and sustainable
development using innovative learning tools, thereby enabling Lebanese learners
world wide to enhance their capabilities and foster their intellectual growth in
a truly virtual environment. The
E-Learning courses offered through
RREI
'E-Learn' will be developed
under different program, in collaboration with RREI
partners and supported by various funding agencies. These
course modules will be rich in audio, video and interactive web-based content,
and use the latest tools and techniques. The use of technology, combined with
new approaches to content creation and delivery, will give impetus to this new
initiative of
RREI
in the area of distance
education, and also benefit the ever-growing Lebanese, world wide, student
community. VII.
RREI’s Eco. &
Green Lebanon Magazine (EGLM) :
RREI’s Eco. &
Green Lebanon Magazine
(EGLM) will be A Quarterly English Language
Scientific
Magazine. VIII.
RREI’s Website : A comprehensive informative website that will have Links with
Reputable and Professional Renewable Energy Organizations and Institutions.
